Bourbon and Oak cubes

I found some medium toasted oak cubes along with some old brewing gear I haven't used since 2009. Using bourbon from the rad folks at Sugar House Distillery. I hope this oak appreciates the nice things I do for it.

Citra Pants, Hops be good.

Citra Pants IPA. Dry hopped this today with 1 oz of Citra. It's been almost two weeks since brew day. The hops smell amazing, a few pellets fell on the floor and I'm huffing them as I type this. I didn't bother racking to secondary or anything, just popped the lid of the bucket and dumped them in and gave the fermenter a little swirl.

Bumpy-ass brew day. It's fucking cold outside, around 20. Should have preheated the mash tun longer/hotter because I missed my desired mash temp of 152. Ended up using the electric tea kettle to bring it closer, but ended up at 150. I used rice hulls after things got cloggy n' shit with the new braid. Between the wheat, hulls and extended mash, the spent grain was gelatinous and made for an easy clean up.

Just as the boil was starting UPS showed up with the new 1/2 inch, 50 foot stainless steel immersion chiller I ordered myself for Christmas. Thanks Santa, you have pretty badass taste in brewing gear. I cleaned it up during the first 20 minutes of the boil, and tossed it in. The Summit hops I used are from Yakima Valley Hops. They smell pretty amazing and seem to been in good hands prior to me boiling them to death.

Brew day notes: Poorly estimated boil off rate, and had too much other shit going on. The hydro sample was at 1.072. I eyeballed diluting it to 1.067 at the 5.5 gallons it should have been at assuming 75% brew-house efficiency. Had a stuck mash with the new stainless steel braid from the water heater supply line. It's a very fine mesh and clogs easy. I'll probably replace it later on.
